Toti robbers abandon car loaded with stolen goods when disturbed by reaction officer

Armed Toti robbers fled the scene of a home invasion in the St Winifreds area, leaving behind the resident’s vehicle and other valuables they had loaded into it, when a Blue Security armed response officer disturbed them at the scene last night.

The home invasion in Whitfield Drive was the second robbery targeting an Audi at the weekend as suspects had earlier stolen an Audi during a home invasion in Pinetown.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said two suspects, armed with knives, held up the Kingsburgh resident in his home at around 8.40pm last night. “The suspects ransacked the house and loaded up valuables, including a DVD player, jewellery, laptops, a television, watches and a cellphone into the resident’s wife’s Audi and then tied him up and locked him in a bathroom,” Mathios said.

“The resident managed to press a panic button and our officer responded swiftly to the scene before the robbers managed to drive off. They were sitting in the Audi with the lights on and the gates open when he arrived and told him that they had come to fetch someone at the property,” Mathios said. “The officer walked to the kitchen door to make contact with the resident and as he stepped away the men got out of the vehicle and used a remote to open the gate and run away. Except for a cellphone and two watches, they left behind all the valuables that they had loaded into the vehicle.”

Mathios said two armed robbers armed with a firearm and a knife held up a couple in their home in Farningham Ridge in Pinetown at noon on Friday. “The suspects forced the couple into the bedroom and tied them up. They stole jewellery from the house and fled the scene in the couple’s Audi. No injuries were reported,” Mathios said.
