Armed robbers shot and injured a Blue Security armed response officer who responded to an incident at a business premises in Westmead in the early hours of this morning.
Blue Security operations director Brian Jackson said the officer had radioed for back-up after a shootout with robbers in Hillclimb Road at around 1.15am.
“While the officer was inspecting the property, two suspects ambushed him and fired several shots at him. Our officer returned fire, but was shot in his abdomen, leg and a bullet grazed his head. It is believed that one of the suspects was injured in the shooting because a blood trail was found leading to nearby bushes in the direction the suspects had fled,” Jackson said.
“Our officer managed to call for backup and was found lying near his vehicle. He was transported to hospital where he is in a stable condition,” Jackson said.
Pinetown SAPS attended the scene of the crime and recovered four bullet shells.
