The body of an elderly Manor Gardens resident, who was robbed and apparently beaten do death in his home in Glenturret Road, was discovered this morning.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said reports from the scene indicated that the body of the man, believed to be around 72 years old, had been in the house for about two days before being discovered at around 9am this morning.
“Casual labourers who had arrived to do some construction work at the property noticed something was amiss when the elderly man did not respond to open the property for them. They flagged down one of our technicians who happened to be driving past the property. He alerted our control centre and an armed response officer was dispatched to the scene,” Mathios said.
“Our officer went inside to investigate and discovered the body of the victim who had been bound, gagged and apparently beaten to death in the bedroom. According to paramedics, the victim has been deceased for about two days. The family of the victim has been notified of the crime,” Mathios said.
Mathios said it was unclear at this stage what items were stolen during the robbery.
The local neighbourhood watch group, Mayville SAPS and ER24 paramedics responded to the scene of the crime.
