Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said the officer was on a routine patrol in the neighbourhood when he noticed the suspects walking along Montpelier Road. The incident occurred at around 10.23pm.
“The officers spotted two suspects walking along the road, carrying several plastic chairs, which the officer recognised as belonging to a restaurant in the area. He called for a back-up officer to investigate at the restaurant where he suspected the chairs had been stolen from,” Mathios said.
“The back-up officer investigated at the restaurant and found that a metal storage shed on the premises had been broken into and the chairs had been removed. The suspects were then arrested and handed over to members of the Berea SAPS along with the chairs at the scene,” he said.
Mathios commended the officer for his vigilance and quick thinking during the arrest. “We are committed to fighting crime in the neighbourhood and hope that this latest arrest sends a strong message to housebreakers and other opportunistic criminals that they will be brought to book,” he said.
