An elderly Durban North woman and her caregiver were lucky to escape a home invasion unharmed when a gang of armed robbers stormed into a property in Grosvenor Crescent on Friday evening.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said five armed robbers forced open a pedestrian gate to gain entry onto the property. The gang arrived at the property in a gold VW Polo at around 7.55pm.
“They then forced open the front door and ransacked the house. The elderly resident and her caregiver were both at home and managed to get to safety and lock themselves in one of the bedrooms,” Mathios said. “The gang fled with a television, a computer and a printer. One of our officers responded to the scene and gave chase, but the suspects fled towards North Coast Road and managed to evade arrest. No shots were fired during the incident. Fortunately the resident and her caregiver were unharmed.”
