Eye in the sky cameras
“Eye in the sky” cameras refer to the blue domes that have been positioned at strategic locations in our Blue Zone communities. These area surveillance systems are equipped with CCTV surveillance cameras that allow us to monitor the area 24/7. This technology allows for integrated area surveillance of our communities so that we can help keep residents safe by preventing crime.
Visible blue domes
Visible domes act as a deterrent to would-be criminals.
Just knowing that someone is watching – day and night – reduces the likelihood of a crime being committed in the public field of view.
Data analysis
We use the data captured to track any fleeing suspect’s movements.
This allows us to track suspects and increases the chances of catching them.
CCTV cameras record footage 24/7
The recorded footage becomes evidence that can be used to assist police investigations.
Virtual patrols
Virtual patrols allow our dedicated CCTV controllers to remotely view the live feeds that are constantly streaming from all of our blue domes. If they suspect suspicious activity, they will immediately dispatch an armed response officer to investigate the situation. Area surveillance systems have led to many successful arrests.
ANPR cameras
Installing Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras on our area surveillance systems has boosted our proactive crime-fighting efforts. These cameras read the number plates of every vehicle that drives past and cross-reference it against the SAPS database.
If a vehicle has been reported as stolen or involved in criminal activity, our team is immediately notified and response officers can swoop in and assist law enforcement.
Line crossing technology
Line crossing detection is one of the behaviour-detection features of our area surveillance systems. When a person crosses a specific virtual barrier line, the camera will automatically detect and record the event, which will trigger the necessary alarms.
