Abducted Chatsworth man seizes moment to escape armed robbers

A quick thinking Chatsworth man had a narrow escape from a gang of armed robbers who took him on a nightmare drive in his vehicle yesterday morning.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said the resident was in his room sleeping when five suspects climbed up onto an upstairs balcony and forced open the lounge window of the Silverglen Drive home. The incident occurred at around 7.30am.

“The gang held up the resident at knifepoint and loaded televisions and camera equipment into his car, before forcing him into the vehicle and demanding his bank card PIN number,” Mathios said. “When they stopped at an ATM to draw cash, the resident seized the opportunity to jump into the driver’s seat and drive away. He drove home and discovered that the gang had stolen a second vehicle that was parked outside his home,” Mathios said.

Bayview SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

In a separate miraculous escape recently, a Reservoir Hills woman walked away alive after an armed robber’s gun jammed three times as he attempted to shoot her.
