BLUE ALERT FOR ALL AREAS FOR THE WEEK PRECEDING 23 JANUARY 2012
Summerveld. Hijacking - Residential (16 January 2012, 21:18:19) Two suspects approached the resident as she was entering her driveway and fired two shots. The resident and her children ran to a neighbour and the suspects fled in a black Porsche.
What a cowardly act. We’re grateful that this family escaped unharmed. Driveway hijackings are on the increase, so it is important to be vigilant when you arrive or leave your premises.
Berea, Elland Road. Theft of a Motor Vehicle - Residential (13 January 2012, 21:47:28) A green Polo Classic registration number DDY 489 EC was stolen from the pavement outside the premises.
Umbilo, Bartle Road. Theft of a Motor Vehicle - Residential (17 January 2012, 11:04:50) A white Toyota Tazz registration number ND 318 142 parked was stolen from the verge.
Yellowwood Park, Woodpecker Circle. Theft of a Motor Vehicle - Residential (17 January 2012, 15:47:51) Suspects derailed the driveway gate and a blue Toyota Tazz, registration number ND 198871 was stolen from the yard.
Carrington Heights, River Drive. Theft of a Motor Vehicle - Residential (18 January 2012, 9:16:13) A white Mitsubishi bakkie was stolen from the verge outside the premises.
Mount Edgecombe, Flanders Road. Theft of a Motor Vehicle - Business (12 January 2012, 14:49:15) Two suspects entered the shop. One suspect distracted the owner while the other suspect grabbed the keys to a vehicle which were lying on a desk. The suspects fled in the resident’s silver-grey Opel Corsa bakkie, registration number NUR 29653.
Windermere, Harvey Road. Theft of Motor Vehicle - Business (16 January 2012, 7:30:18) Suspects forced open the front door and entered the premises. Four computers, two cell phones, a safe, tools and a white Nissan truck, registration ND 508077, were stolen.
Jacobs, Milner Street. Theft of a Motor Vehicle - Business (19 January 2012, 11:28:19) A silver Toyota Tazz, registration number NX 10534, was stolen from the pavement.

Crestholme Rainbow Drive. Gatecrashing - Residential (11 January 2012, 10:38:19) Suspects forced open the driveway gate and climbed on to the roof and through an open upper level bathroom window. The suspects entered the resident's bedroom where he was sleeping and bound his hands and feet. Two plasma screen TVs, two laptops, a cell phone, a PlayStation and games, jewellery, cash and coins and a safe containing ID documents were stolen.
Yet another reason to close ALL WINDOWS while you’re asleep or to at least make sure the burglar guards are robust enough to withstand being pushed inwards.
Cat burglars are known for their stealth, which is probably the reason this resident wasn’t woken up by this intrusion and the suspects had the opportunity to disable the resident and loot the house. Durban North, Monteith Place. Gatecrashing - Residential (12 January 2012, 19:59:27) Suspects derailed the driveway gate and forced open the front door. The suspects ransacked the premises and two TVs were stolen.
Amanzimtoti, Bunting Place. Gatecrashing - Residential (13 January 2012, 13:00:02) Suspects derailed the driveway gate and forced open the security gate and front door. Two computers were stolen.
Hillcrest, Sunnyside Avenue. Gatecrashing - Residential (14 January 2012, 12:49:15) Suspects forced open the driveway gate and kicked in the front door. A computer and safe containing jewellery and documents were stolen.
Glen Anil, Cypress Drive. Gatecrashing- Residential (15 January 2012, 21:32:51) Suspects derailed the driveway gate and forced open a security gate and lounge door. Two TVs were stolen.
To avoid becoming a victim of this type of crime you need to ensure that criminals don’t see your property as a soft target. The objective behind spending money on various forms of security is to buy time. The more security layers you have for thieves to force through to gain access to your home, the less likely they are to try.

Glenwood, Willowvale Road. Housebreaking - Residential (11 January 2012, 12:26:50) A bedroom window was broken and the burglar guard pushed inwards. A camera and jewellery were stolen.
Glenwood, Penzance Road. Housebreaking - Residential (12 January 2012, 10:51:00) Suspects forced open the security gate and front door. A TV, DVD player, speakers and jewellery were stolen.
Gillitts, Montgomery Drive. Housebreaking - Residential (12 January 2012, 2:23:36) Suspects used bolt cutters to cut the lock on a pedestrian gate at the back of the premises. Louver windows were removed and the suspects entered the bar area of the house. A decanter, a bar stool, two alcohol dispensers and alcohol were stolen.
More spirit is not what is not needed among the already brazen and ever-increasing criminal element.
Westville, Fyfe Avenue. Housebreaking - Residential (12 January 2012, 12:.33:58) A suspect entered the house through an unlocked front door and fled with items from the lounge. The resident was in the kitchen at the time.

Berea, Berriedale Road. Housebreaking - Residential (14 January 2012, 3:39:22) Suspects opened the garage door and stole a box of clothes and a bike helmet.
Playing dress-up can be such fun. Just wondering whether the thief expected to find a biker’s kit to compliment his helmet in amongst that box of old clothes?
Durban North, Inverness Crescent. Housebreaking - Residential (14 January 2012, 19:56:44) Suspects entered the property through an unlocked pedestrian gate and forced open the front door. A TV, a laptop and jewellery were stolen.
Assagay, Bowles Road. Housebreaking - Residential (16 January 2012, 0:05:23) Suspects forced open a store room door and stole two brush cutters.
Gillitts, Montgomery Drive. Housebreaking - Residential (17 January 2012, 2:28:36) Suspects entered the garage through an unlocked door. A laptop, gas stove and a handbag were stolen.

Mariannhill, Rudloff Road. Housebreaking - Residential (17 January 2012, 5:14:04) Suspects forced open a window and pushed in the burglar guard. A DVD player, an amplifier and a cell phone were stolen.
Hillcrest, Ridge Road. Housebreaking - Residential (17 January 2012, 12:19:16) Suspects forced open a window and pushed in the burglar guard. A DVD player was stolen. A window of a caravan on the premises was also broken.

Sea Cow Lake, Centre Road. Housebreaking - Residential (18 January 2012, 10:58:29) Suspects entered the premises through an open, upper level bathroom window. The suspects ransacked the kitchen cupboards and jewellery, an amplifier and a CD player were stolen.
Waterfall, Victoria Avenue. Housebreaking - Residential (18 January 2012, 12:24:06) Suspects forced open the security gate and removed the door. A hammer and a drill were stolen.
Durban North, Manfred Drive. Housebreaking - Residential (18 January 2012, 14:34:33) Suspects forced open the front door. A TV and a safe containing jewellery and documents were stolen.
Westville, Alastair Road. Housebreaking - Residential (18 January 2012, 16:22:50) Suspects entered the premises through an open, unsecured window. A DVD player, a watch and a suitcase were stolen.
New Germany, Ridge Road. Housebreaking - Residential (20 January 2012, 3:10:57) Suspects pushed in the burglar guard of an open bedroom window. The resident confronted the suspect and was assaulted. Two cell phones, jewellery and two wallets containing cash were stolen.
Redhill, Glen Anil Road. Housebreaking - Business (11 January 2012, 4:06:49) Suspects derailed the driveway gate and forced open the front door. Three computers were stolen.
Berea, Musgrave Road. Housebreaking - Business (11 January 2012, 4:47:44) Suspects derailed the driveway gate and forced open the security gate and front door. A computer and printer were stolen.
Morningside, Windermere Road. Housebreaking - Business (13 January 2012, 7:08:56) Suspects entered the premises through the roof. Cash from a safe was stolen.
New Germany, Henred Road. Housebreaking - Business (14 January 2012, 6:16:40) Suspects forced open the front door and entered the premises. Four computers and cool drinks were stolen.

Glenwood, Queen Mary Avenue. Housebreaking - Business (15 January 2012, 8:02:20) Suspects entered the premises through the roof. A safe was forced open and cash was stolen. Pinetown, Swanfield Road. Housebreaking - Business (15 January 2012, 9:38:46) Suspects broke through the roof and stole a fridge, a microwave oven, beers and glassware.

New Germany, Dinkelman Road. Housebreaking - Business (15 January 2012, 15:23:57) Suspects forced open the kitchen window and pushed in the burglar guard. Copper water pipes were stolen from the kitchen and the exterior walls of the building.
Westmead, Circuit Road. Housebreaking – Business (16 January 2012, 9:03:46) Suspects entered the premises through a toilet window. A parking meter, alcohol and a kettle were stolen.
A parking meter? That trumps the kettle.
Berea, Berea Road. Housebreaking - Business (19 January 2012, 5:57:14) Suspects forced open a window and cut open the burglar guard. Two safes were forced open and cigarettes and cash were stolen.
Avoca, Columbine Close. Housebreaking - Business (19 January 2012, 7:27:40) Suspects forced open a door and entered the premises. Five computers were stolen.
Kloof, Minerva Road. Theft - Residential (12 January 2012, 3:32:28) Suspects stole a lawnmower from the yard.
Pinetown, Lombard Street. Theft - Residential (12 January 2012, 5:43:12) A suspect stole keys and remotes to the premises .
Kloof, Igwababa Road. Theft - Residential (17 January 2012, 18:09:35) Copper water pipes were stolen from the premises.
Westville, Alastair Road. Theft - Residential (18 January 2012, 11:31:13) Copper pipes were stolen from the premises.
Glenwood, Hewitt Road. Theft - Residential (18 January 2012, 12:31:47) The resident opened the garage door and a suspect ran into the yard and stole a radio. Rossburgh, Edwin Swales Drive. Theft - Business (13 January 2012, 10:11:34) A wrist watch was stolen from a customer.
Durban Central, Station Road. Theft - Business (16 January 2012, 16:18:20) Suspects fished items through an open window at the back of the premises.
Alverstone. Theft - Business (18 January 2012, 9:37:45) Four suspects in a white Toyota Corolla assaulted an employee and stole a brush cutter.
Berea, Windermere Road. Theft out of a Motor Vehicle - Residential (17 January 2012, 13:09:36) Two suspects broke the passenger window of a vehicle parked outside the premises and stole a laptop.
New Germany, Bloefield Road. Theft out of a Motor Vehicle - Residential (19 January 2012, 3:25:49) Suspects cut a hole in the fence and tampered with the lock on a white Opel Corsa Lite parked in the yard. Four speakers, a stereo and an amplifier were stolen.
Umhlanga Rocks, Kingston Drive. Theft out of a Motor Vehicle – Residential (19 January 2012, 19:50:09) A laptop and an i-Pad were stolen from a vehicle.
Westville, Menstone Road. Trespassing - Residential (14 January 2012, 13:39:15) Suspects forced open a security gate to the court yard. The resident noticed the suspects and screamed. The suspect fled in a white bakkie which was parked on the pavement.
Screaming can work exceptionally well to frighten criminals away but it’s far more effective when combined with a remote panic button which, when pressed, will activate the alarm siren and summon help.

Durban North, Attebury Road. Vandalism - Residential (12 January 2012, 9:01:17) Suspects removed two metal spikes from the fence.
Waterfall, Ridge Road. Vandalism - Residential (12 January 2012, 17:37:37) Suspects broke a window of a vehicle parked in the yard.
Umbilo, Umbilo Road. Vandalism - Residential (14 January 2012, 4:35:07) A water meter was stolen from the yard.
New Germany, Harborth Road. Vandalism - Business (14 January 2012, 20:54:22) Suspects damaged the ignition of a bakkie parked on the premises.
Kloof, Jameson Terrace. Vandalism - Residential (17 January 2012, 11:54:17) Suspects cut the perimeter fence but did not enter the property.
Crestholme, Crestholme Drive. Vandalism - Residential (18 January 2012, 19:21:08) Suspects cut the perimeter fence but did not enter the yard.
SUCCESSES Northdene, O'Reilly Crescent. Hijacking - Residential (14 January 2012, 19:44:30) Two suspects held up the resident in the driveway at gun point and forced the resident out of the vehicle. The suspects fled in a silver Toyota Yaris, registration number ND 45637. The vehicle was recovered.
Botha's Hill, Warwickshire Crescent. Housebreaking - Residential (11 January 2012, 8:14:23) Suspects forced open a bathroom window at the back of the premises and pushed in the burglar guard. A DSTV decoder was stolen. One of the suspects was apprehended and arrested.
Westriding, Barron Road. Housebreaking - Residential (16 January 2012, 2:37:50) Suspects cut a hole in the perimeter fence and entered the property. Travel bags and a gas cylinder were stolen from a veranda. The items were recovered.
Chatsworth, Silverglen Drive. Housebreaking - Residential (16 January 2012, 13:48:49) Suspects entered the house through the roof. A cell phone and jewellery were stolen. A suspect was apprehended inside the house.
Carrington Heights, Willoughby Road. Theft - Residential (12 January 2012, 11:23:15) Suspects forced open the driveway gate and entered an unlocked garage. A bicycle stolen from the premises was recovered.
Glenwood, Davenport Road. Theft - Business (13 January 2012, 9:25:43) A suspect was apprehended on the premises for stealing jewellery.
Morningside, Florida Road. Theft out of a Motor Vehicle -- Residential (19 January 2012, 5:25:31) A suspect was apprehended and arrested for breaking into a vehicle. A cell phone and a wallet were returned to the owner.
Glenwood, Bulwer Road. Attempted Theft of a Motor Vehicle - Residential (19 January 2012, 9:48:08) A suspect was apprehended for attempting to steal a motor vehicle.
