BLUE ALERT FOR ALL AREAS FOR THE WEEK PRECEDING 27 OCTOBER 2011 Glen Anil, Sagewood Way. Armed Robbery - Residential (22 October 2011, 14:12:57) Westville, Westville Road. Armed Robbery - Business (23 October 2011, 0:06:43) These guys are living the gangster lifestyle. If they want it, they’re going to take it. Only problem is the Uno doesn’t match really match the gangster the image! Sherwood, Jan Smuts Highway. Armed Robbery - Residential (25 October 2011, 18:49:33) PSSSSSSSSSSSST! The sound of pepper spray being dispensed. AAAAAAAARG! The sound of a would-be attacker becoming the victim. Glenmore, Grosvenor Road. Hijacking - Residential (22 October 2011, 23:28:59) Morningside, Portcullis Road. Gatecrashing - Residential (21 October 2011, 21:01:21) Ironically the name of the street in which this incident occurred is Portcullis. With crime levels the way they are we may soon be going back to the days of the moat, drawbridge and portcullis. For starters, we’d all be a lot more secure if the security gates on our doors were a little more sturdy and fitted flush with the walls which makes it difficult for criminals to prise them off with crow bars. (PS: Still not sure what a portcullis is, read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portcullis) Gillitts, Norton Avenue. Gatecrashing - Residential (21 October 2011, 9:46:27) It takes an experienced intruder under 4 minutes to derail a driveway gate, force open a security gate and a front door and escape in a vehicle with YOUR expensive electronic equipment. Barrier security and early detection, such as strip beams, magnetic locks on gates, and electric fencing act to deter and limit the intruders opportunity to get into your home. Assagay, Kassier Road. Gatecrashing - Business (24 October 2011, 5:42:32) Pinetown, Impala Lane. Housebreaking - Residential (19 October 2011, 6:48:43) Roof top burglaries are literally going through the roof. Just a reminder that microwave passives are easy to install in your roof and make you much less vulnerable to intruders. A small price to pay for a lot more security and peace of mind. Hillary, Huntley Road. Housebreaking - Residential (20 October 2011, 18:05:12) Believe it or not, often the accomplice to a housebreaking is a small child who will be used to climb through tight spaces. Morningside, Daisy Road. Housebreaking - Residential (22 October 2011, 2:12:57) Picture these guys in action! Once the window is broken, a strong push is all that it takes to get the burglar bars out of the way and intruders into your house. DIY burglar guards screwed into a wooden window frame are no match for a determined burglar – in fact at best they provide a false sense of security. If this is all your budget will allow then a far better option would be to replace the screw with an 8mm bold right through the window frame. For cosmetic (and increased security) purposes the head of the bolt should be counter sunk into the window frame and the nut should be rounded off with a file or angle grinder and coated in epoxy. Yes it takes a lot longer to install burglar guards this way but by the same token it takes a lot more than a firm shove to break through them. Westville, Menstone Road. Housebreaking - Residential (22 October 2011, 11:52:18) Manor Gardens, Rif Road. Housebreaking - Residential (22 October 2011, 23:52:48) Morningside, Arran Road. Housebreaking - Residential (23 October 2011, 5:25:53) Sherwood, Galway Road. Housebreaking - Residential (23 October 2011, 5:51:01) Pinetown, Tracy Watts Road. Housebreaking - Residential (25 October 2011, 6:12:55) Gillitts, Oriole Road. Housebreaking - Residential (25 October 2011, 10:39:30) New Germany, Chichester Gardens. Theft out of a Motor Vehicle - Residential (20 October 2011, 15:14:00) Botha's Hill, Old Main Road. Theft out of a Motor Vehicle - Business (22 October 2011, 2:39:43) Glenwood, Meyrick Avenue. Trespassing - Residential (22 October 2011, 10:03:21) Open spaces such as parks attract criminals for obvious reasons. They’re places where criminals can loiter “out of the eyes” so to speak and keep their eyes on the comings and goings of nearby properties. If your home is close to an open space or park, you may need to take a few more security measures to adequately protect your home – but then again, if you live near a park you probably know that already. Botha’s Hill, Mkhize Road. Trespassing - Residential (25 October 2011, 10:39:12) Glenwood, Chelmsford Road. Trespassing - Residential (25 October 2011, 13:07:28) SUCCESSES Suspects know they've got about 3 to 5 minutes to get away with their loot before armed reaction arrives. Often though we surprise them by arriving on the premises sooner and in a desperate bid to escape, the suspects often drop their loot. Padfield Park, Steere Road. Theft - Residential (20 October 2011, 6:45:45) Our Boys in Blue do go the extra mile. Pinetown, View Road. Trespassing - Residential (22 October 2011, 6:24:08) Berea, Florida Road (22 October 2011, 16:17:45) Good! The best place for this scum – behind bars.
Hillcrest, Old Main Road. Theft – Business (25 October 2011, 7:38:10) Waterfall, Brackenhill Road. Theft - Business (21 October 2011, 22:50:38) He had no business being there in the first place –so he got what he deserved. Attempted housebreaking where nothing appears to have been stolen:
