BLUE ALERT FOR ALL AREAS FOR THE WEEK PRECEDING 6 OCTOBER 2011 Pinetown, Beare Drive. Theft of a Firearm - Residential (29 September 2011, 11:52:39) 13 is a very unlucky number which is made even worse by the fact that this is the 13th firearm that we are reporting stolen this year. We know the damage guns can do to people, that guns take lives and that it is not responsible and an offense to own a gun and leave it lying in your cupboard, or under a mattress. The only place for a gun is in a gun safe which you can rawl bolt and epoxy it to a concrete floor. Carrington Heights, Bowen Avenue. Armed Robbery - Residential (29 September 2011, 10:17:38) There have been a number of attacks on students walking alone in the Manor Gardens, Glenmore and Carrington Heights areas this year. There is safety in numbers, and we’d advise residents not to walk on roads lined with bushes in which criminals can lurk. Phoenix, Kentstone Close. Hijacking - Residential (03 October 2011, 7:18:20) Morningside, Essenwood Road. Hijacking - Residential (04 October 2011, 19:01:56) Same modus operandi by both sets of hijackers – and the illegal weapons they were carrying made the crime of robbing the residents of their vehicles a breeze. Westville, Nordene Road. Gatecrashing - Residential (29 September 2011, 9:52:59) Glenmore, Brazilia Place. Gatecrashing - Residential (30 September 2011, 9:59:47 ) We believe an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and would advise all residents to have their security systems assessed by one of our experts to be sure that you will know about an intruder before you are face-to-face with one. Gatecrashing and many house robberies can be prevented, with adequate perimeter security and a magnetic lock on the driveway gate. Waterfall, Valley Drive. Housebreaking - Residential (29 September 2011, 10:52:15) These thugs didn’t get the car but they took the keys. In a case like this it’s a good idea to contact your dealer and have the frequency of your immobilizer changed - for obvious reasons. Amanzimtoti, Worldsview Road. In all seriousness, though, the Berea SAPS advised residents to grease drainpipes on flat blocks to prevent criminals using the drainpipes to climb up to upper level windows. Morningside, Sunrise Place. Housebreaking - Residential (02 October 2011, 19:01:36) Durban, Milner Street. Trespassing - Residential (03 October 2011, 13:09:31) Morningside, Goble Road. Trespassing - Residential (01 October 2011, 6:39:58) Many of the criminals prowling the streets are chancers who are attracted into a property by open doors and windows, especially if the premises looks deserted, and not all criminals are frightened away when they find the home occupied. We’d advise you and your domestic worker wears a panic button around your neck if you are home alone. Cell force which you can load onto your cell phone is also an excellent option as it allows you to send a discreet signal to our Control Room if you are confronted by dangerous criminals in your home and you do not want to set off the alarm siren with a panic button. New Germany, Openheimer Street. Vandalism - Business (01 October 2011, 8:36:19) SUCCESSES Durban Central, Russell Street.
